US economy grew 2.2% in the second quarter, down from 2.5% in the first
The Bureau of Economic Analysis said growth in Q2 2026 slowed 0.3 percentage point from the prior quarter and ran well below the 4.0% pace of a year earlier.

PCE prices rose 3.4% over 12 months in August, unchanged from July
Core PCE inflation, the Fed's preferred gauge, also held at 3.0% in August, while core prices rose 0.2% from July.

New home sales rose 6.4% in August to an annual rate of 684,000
Sales of newly built single-family homes reached their highest level since December 2025, when the rate was 723,000, though they stayed below the year-earlier pace of 698,000.

Industrial production was unchanged in August after a 0.2% gain in July
The Federal Reserve Board said factory, mine and utility output showed no change in August, following a 0.2% rise in July. In August 2025, output had fallen 0.3%.

Housing starts fell 2.6% in August to a 1.28 million annual rate
The Census Bureau said builders started homes at a 1,275,000 annual rate in August, down 34,000 from July and below the 1,291,000 pace of August 2025.
